don’t forget to let your sister(s) know what she means to you, by MW

There is only one denotation, or dictionary definition, for the word “sister”. It literally means “a female who has the same parents as another person”, simple as that. No dictionary in the world will contradict that definition.
However, if you ask anybody with a sister, very few people will define “sister” in the same way.
When you think about it, your sister(s) probably knows you better than anyone else.
Not because you share the same parents or because of everything you’ve told her over the years, but because you’ve lived life together.
Your sister(s) has experienced almost every part of your childhood right by your side. She’s seen you at your best and worst. She was there for you when no one else was and will love you no matter how many arguments you guys have had throughout the years.
Your sister(s) isn’t just some random female who happens to have the same parents as you, she is someone who was put into your life to support, love, and understand you more than anyone else.
So, while the dictionary definition isn’t wrong, there really isn’t a single sentence that can measure or define what a sister is.
There is no word that can illustrate what it means to have or be a sister to someone.
There isn’t even a picture that can depict the complicated and unique relationship between sisters. In truth, the bond between sisters transcends any simple definition or image.
It’s a connection woven with shared memories, unspoken understanding, and an unbreakable loyalty that can only grow stronger with time.
The word “sister” may be defined by blood, but the true essence of sisterhood is defined by the love, trust, and unbreakable connection that two people share—a connection that no dictionary could ever fully capture.
So Happy National Sisters Day and don’t forget to let your sister know what she means to you.
