give yourself a mental break this summer, by RP

When most people think of summer time they think of hanging out with friends, going on vacation, and most importantly: no school. While I think we can all agree that having so much free time and not having to worry about schoolwork is amazing, I think it is also important that we remember to use our time away to really give ourselves the mental break we need.
It’s fun to have different events and things planned during the summer because we finally have the freedom to do what we want when we want, but filling our calendars up with things can almost make summer time become as stressful as if it were the school year.
It’s important to take some days of rest where you reset your mind and give yourself a second to breathe.
For me, reading and cleaning always helps to clear my head and helps make me feel more organized. It gives me time to think and reflect on all that has happened. Some people like yoga, stretching, or going on walks to rewind and take a break.
After a particularly stressful school year, like junior year, it can leave you feeling tired and drained and it may seem like you never have a break because college applications, essays, and senior events seem like they begin right after junior year has finished.
However, I’ve learned that we need to take a moment to rewind and filling your summer up with college and senior things is the exact opposite of that. You can’t do your best work if you’re still exhausted from the previous school year.
Remember to take at least one day a week to yourself so you can reset your mind.
So this summer I want you to ask yourself this question; how can I use this summer to the fullest extent to help myself fully rewind from the stress of the school year?
