I’m sure everyone has seen the viral video of the Navy Seal explaining how you can change the world by starting your day with making your bed. If you haven’t seen it, it is basically explaining how starting off your day with making your bed motivates you to do more productive things around you.
Agreeing with this Navy Seal, I believe that the way you start your day sets the tone for the whole day. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I want to do is fall back asleep but when I realize that you have a whole day ahead of me, it brings a smile to my face; It motivates me to do things like make my bed.
According to the National Sleep Foundation’s Bedroom Poll, every morning about 70% of Americans make their bed. This explains that more people in America make their bed everyday than people who don’t.
Furthermore, a cluttered room can lead to a cluttered mind. Think about the look of your room when your bed is made versus when your bed isn’t made. In my opinion, making my bed is something that motivates me to clean the rest of my room. Even when I don’t clean my room, just making my bed makes my room look extremely better. It allows me to feel put together and calm when the rest of my world is so busy all the time.
So why should we make our bed? Although the impact of just making your bed is not too much, it can impact your mindset for the whole day. When we wake up in the morning with a positive attitude, it can help us accomplish numerous things throughout our day. It can even lead us to “changing the world” just as the navy seal said.
So today, on national make your bed day, are you going to make your bed? Are you going to start your day off right so that you can change the world? I encourage all of you to appreciate such a simple task that can lead to moving mountains.
