how my reading tastes have changed, by ST
This article was written for yooou! by our intern – and avid reader – 17-year-old, ST.
As a young child, my books were chosen & read aloud to me. I was introduced to the world of books through magical stories, adventures and happy endings. I think that’s what sparked my love for reading.
At around 7 years old, I discovered an ongoing book series called ”Rainbow Magic” and absolutely adored them, I also remember reading books like ”Judy Moody.”
Fast forward a bit, I found Roald Dahl & Jacqueline Wilson. When I say I was obsessed with both of their books mean I was OBSESSED.
I still to this day have so many of their books, that I read as a kid. I vividly remember staying up wayyy past my bedtime to read Roald Dahl’s “Danny, the Champion of the World.” Equally, I also remember staying up late to finish Jacqueline Wilson’s “Rent a Bridesmaid”.
I think “Tracy Beaker” is definitely the book I remember the most about by Jacqueline Wilson.
I was so excited when I got my first kindle, so I could read all of her books! I used to read so fast & would easily get through one book a day! Wilson’s books always managed to suck me in & looking back now I think I might have been slightly too young to be reading her books.. (shhhh…)
Now, in my teenage years, my reading is a bit more varied.
I read so many different genres but fantasy books will always have a special place in my heart. I’ve always loved the escapism that fantasy books have – I’ve gone from reading books like “Rainbow Magic” to “Percy Jackson” or “The Cruel Prince“.
Or from reading fairytales to murder mysteries.
I also prefer to read Paperback copies of books now, whereas as a chuld, I used to prefer reading on my kindle.
I think it’s safe to say that even though my reading taste has changed, my love for it has definitely not!
