coloring is not just for little kids, by MS
Coloring is not just for little kids and I’m about to tell you why!
Dallaska has been the ultimate gift from God of pure free time to relax and I personally have gotten the gift of diving back into coloring!
I know coloring might sound silly or like a little kid, but coloring is actually so therapeutic.
When I went to camp this summer I got a coloring book in hopes I might use it if I got bored. Little did I know that book would stay by my side for the whole two weeks of camp and be shared between me and all my friends! No matter if we were in the craft shed, waiting for food, or having free time, I was in camp coloring with all my friends and having so much fun.
I bought this coloring book “Cozy Friends” on Amazon just before I left for camp because I saw an instagram reel about someone coloring with a candle beside them and it looked so therapeutic. Knowing I was going to be without my phone for two weeks I needed something to fill my boredom, so I thought I might try out coloring. Looking back at the pages I did, my friend did, and ones we all did together brings me right back to camp and all it’s amazing memories and I just get filled with so much peace and gratitude looking back on it.
The coloring book I have is full of little animals doing everyday tasks like gardening, swimming, baking, and more! All the scenes are so cute and happy and getting this coloring book doesn’t force me to think of something to doodle on a blank page, I am able to just fill in the cute characters with whatever colors I please. Along with the book, I also got a huge set of markers from Amazon that have a marker side and a felt brush side for different types of brush strokes.
As I’ve gone into this busy school year with junior year, I haven’t been able to color as often as I hoped. All my time not spent at school is either for homework, sports, or sleeping; so my book and markers began to collect dust on my shelf. But once Thanksgiving and Christmas break rolled around the corner, this term I thought was never obtainable in light of Junior year, known as “free time,” allowed me to explore coloring again. I spent my breaks with a warm candle, my favorite movie playing, and my coloring book. I found time to wind down, not having to think of english, math or history, the only problem I had to solve was which color fit best on the page, and I was not complaining about that at all. My love for coloring filled me with so much joy again and I could not have been happier.
Getting back into school during January yet again filled my time with school, sports, and sleeping. But these past few “bonus” days of break let me color again! Dallaska could not have been a better environment for me to sit in my warm house, with snow falling, a cup of tea, and a lavender candle burning next to my coloring book. I’ve done 3 pages so far and I just got an email that my school is canceled again tomorrow so I hope to finish another page tomorrow!
So this is my long way of saying you have to start coloring because it is therapeutic, you don’t have to think, and you get to tap into your younger creative days!
